Zoe Page has come to see me for psychotherapy, and based on my assessment of her personality, I’m confident that a course of sensory deprivation will help her to stay in the moment as she goes through her daily life. Zoe’s willing to give the treatment a try, so I blindfold her and put ear plugs into her ears, to help her relax. I’m just commencing the next stage, when a furious, aggrieved ex-client barges into my office. Angry that I couldn’t help her with her complex emotional needs, she threateningly directs me to tie Zoe up with a further pile of silk scarves. She insists I gag Zoe with two silk scarves, add an extra silk scarf blindfold, and tie another Kelly-style over the top, before binding her ankles and wrists too. I don’t understand how this will help her get even with me until she insists I blindfold, gag, bind and ear-plug myself too! Eventually, she leaves us both, tied at different ends of the room, blinded and deafened by our silk scarf treatment. Eventually we manage to find each other and help each other eventually escape the bondage. It’s a terrible ordeal, but Zoe bravely says that she quite enjoyed it, and would be happy to try it again in a therapeutic situation. What a courageous woman!
